Weight loss in itself is a huge challenge but it becomes even more tormenting for working mothers.

Something similar happened with 39-year-old Tina Nehra Sansanwal, who realised that she had gained a lot of weight after her second pregnancy. From juggling between the two major roles of her life to the lack of support from her family, her weight loss quest is an outright inspiration for many.

Read on.

Name: Tina Nehra Sansanwal

Occupation: Primary school teacher Age: 39 years

Highest Recorded Weight: 89 kgs

Duration it took me to lose weight: 10 weeks

Turning Point: During my second pregnancy, I had rapidly gained a lot of weight. I have two kids and a job and did not have any support from my family. I vividly remember the day I realized that enough was enough and I have to lose weight now.

It was 3 years ago and I was looking at a photo of myself with my friends. I was the unhealthiest one in the circle and it dawned on me that I really needed to lose those stubborn kilos. My breakfast: One cup of green tea, one egg and a portion of chicken and sprouts. I also have atleast 3 litres of water daily.

My lunch: Chicken or fish with a bowl of vegetables.

My dinner: I prefer having a light dinner, so sometimes I have fish fillet and/or egg roll with some vegetables.

I also make sure to drink a cup of camomile tea before going to bed.

I indulge in: I absolutely love chocolate and have it occasionally.

I also prefer having a glass of wine--especially after a hard day--to help me relax and sleep better. My workout: I don’t exactly have a fixed workout schedule. However, I do have a dog and take him for a walk at least twice a day.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Tandoori gobhi is my absolute favourite low-cal dish since it does not involve any deep-frying.

It is also light and easy to digest, making it the perfect healthy and yummy meal.

Fitness secret I unveiled: Walking is a really good exercise as it helps you burn fat and stay fit.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? I stay motivated by helping others. I find it therapeutic to help other people attain their weight loss goals. Setting an example for others and being a role model helps me maintain focus and live a healthy life.

What is the most difficult part about being overweight? Being overweight took away my self-confidence and I always felt like I was not good enough.

Feeling exhausted was the order of the day and most of the times I never really felt like I looked good in any kind of dress. It was very distressing.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to lose around 5-6 kilos more, build my stamina and be in the best shape of my life. What are the lifestyle changes you made? I did not make any particular changes in my life and I still enjoy eating a variety of dishes.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? The planning was quite cumbersome.

Preparation is key and without pre-planning, you end up picking snacks which could ruin your weight loss plan.

What was the lowest point for you? During my weight loss journey, I had to prepare separate meals for me and my family, which was really disheartening at first because I believe that as a family we need to share and do things in unison--something I wasn’t able to do for quite a long time. Secondly, since I was overweight, I was not in the condition to play with my children or spend quality time with them. It was really heartbreaking for me.

Lessons learned from weight loss: My weight loss quest has made me realise that we all need to love ourselves first, in order to make any changes in our life.
